White River Radio & Communications hosted its inaugural Winter Field Day on Saturday, January 28th and 29th, 2023. Despite the chilly weather and the presence of snow on the ground, we had an impressive turnout, with about a dozen participants. Notably, Nathan, KI5EDP and George, AG5CC were the only ones who stayed for the entire 24 hour event.

Nathan and George arrived early and efficiently set up the tent, radios, and antennas. They also kindled a roaring fire, ensuring we had ample firewood to keep warm. We had a great time making contacts throughout the rainy day and evening. The morning greeted us with a campfire breakfast prepared by Nathan, KI5EDP, which was enjoyed by everyone who returned for the day.

The event took place in the picturesque Jamestown Mountain WMA, a local resource that offers a unique POTA activation opportunity. If you haven’t visited this beautiful location, we highly recommend doing so soon.

Following breakfast, we made a few more connections before deciding to wrap up and descend the mountain. We extend our gratitude to all the participants who made this event a success.
